How to wear it
Meet the embroidered silk kimono, your new forever-piece
No matter the season, no matter what’s in fashion, classics are classics for a reason: they never go out of style and are a building block of your wardrobe. In our AW17 collection, the Cross Embroidered Kimono is just such a timeless investment piece.
“It’s one of my favourite wardrobe essentials because it is a statement piece in itself and immediately transforms an outfit,” says Kim Hersov, stylist and Talitha co-founder. “I love the hand-worked artisanal detailing of this silk-crepe kimono, especially the striking teal colour contrasted against the grey-pearl lining,” says Kim. “The antique metallic thread colour is a reinterpretation of thread I first saw on a vintage North African child’s cape, and the motifs were inspired by embroidered Ethiopian crosses.”
A transitional piece, this kimono is a great warm-weather staple that can be worn on holiday thrown over a bikini or a sundress, or worn in the city with jeans, shorts and flat sandals. It also works in chillier months, too – for an evening look, wear with tailored trousers in wool or velvet or pair with leather pants. You can even team it with velvet shorts, like the ones pictured from our Talitha AW16 collection, and tights. “I also love the idea of wearing it over a long slip dress (Racil, The Row and Raey do great versions in silk and velvet) or for more casual events, throw it over a great pair of skinny mid-blue denim jeans.
To get the look below, style with a simple tank, velvet shorts, a metallic clutch, like this vintage McQueen one, Rupert Sanderson stilettos and a long silver and onyx necklace by Maurizio Pintaldi. A velvet choker or chandelier earrings would also look great.
